Note:
This website is not owned or funded by Simutronics even though I
work for them. This is a private project that I work on in
my spare time. The ChristianGaming staff <snicker> is solely
responsible for the content on this site. The views of each
game reviewer is their own and does not necessarily reflect the
views of ChristianGaming or its staff.
What
We are Trying to Do
- We are trying
to create a comprehensive site dedicated to promoting Christian
gaming.
- We are trying
to be a place where Christians can go to get information about
online, computer and console games which are of interest to
Christians.
- We are trying
to get Project X developed to create a massively multiplayer
online game specifically designed from the ground up for Christians.
What
We Believe
- Every Christian
site has one but we aren't so vain as to think we can get a
statement of belief perfectly right. I'm sure we'd offend
any number of Christians (Duh!) so you won't find a comprehensive
list detailing exactly what we believe. So, instead of
trying to re-state what others have stated so well and who are
better qualified than us to state it, we have decided to link
to sites which explain Christian Doctrine much better than we
could. Now, we haven't actually checked every detail
of everything doctrinal on these sites so we might not agree
with everything they say (Heck, anyone who's found two Christians
that agreed on everything is in heaven) but we like them just
the same. Since our trip to heaven is likely a ways off,
we'll just have to settle for the best of what's available.
Click on the doctrines link which is especially good.
Easy site to navigate and chocked full of stuff on what to believe
and why. This is our preferred site since we don't have
to work hard or buy lots of stuff to find things out.
Reformed slant to everything but we forgive them anyway even
though it was rather hard to find their statement of faith through
all the marketing (we gave up after dead ending at so many things
for sale). But we're sure it's there someplace.
You might be able to find it. Hey, don't get uptight!
We're just kidding! Click on the resources link.
If you find something there that offends you, well, they wrote
it! Didn't we already say we might not agree with everything
on these sites? Nevertheless this is a pretty good site
for finding lots of books to buy to find out what to believe.
There's even a link to get free articles if you're willing to
supply your name and email.
Wow, we liked this one because of all the links. There's
got to be vast amounts of stuff to disagree with in here but
probably lots of good stuff too. Have at it!
- Ok that's it.
There's many more sites we could list but you can find them
through the ones above (Not sure if CRI has links to other sites
since we couldn't find any. They probably know it all
anyway).
- If this doesn't
satisfy you, email us at illbetyouarereallyacult@christiangaming.com.
We'll probably ignore it since we are trying to duck writing
a formal statement of what it is we believe exactly. But
then, maybe we'll do one after all if the complaints pile up
high enough to swamp our site. Besides, have you tried
reading between the lines or noticed our peculiar use of the
word, "everything"? Try reading some of the
words backwards for an additional surprise (gotta be rather
creative on this one). And if you don't know what we mean,
don't write us asking 'cuz we aren't going to say.

Eric Slick , Founder (eric@christiangaming.com)
The impetus behind
Project X and this site, Eric has been an avid gamer for most of
his life. As a youth he'd spend many hours designing and creating
new games to play. He earned a BA and an MA from Oral Roberts
University in Theology which proved to be the exact right course
of action to break into the gaming industry (12 years later).
After college, he worked in the ministry, teaching school, serving
as Minister of Education, running a Christian School and Preschool
and later owned and operated a Christian bookstore, printing business
and newspaper.
During that time, he
found out about DragonRaid, a thoroughly Christian roleplaying game
that he used very effectively in scripture memorization with his
students and with the youth at his church. This re-kindled
his interest in developing games, particularly
Christian games. Selling one game to a computer magazine,
STart, encouraged Eric to try and write other programs but that
effort failed when the realities of feeding a family of seven forced
him to pursue a steadier source of income.
During one venture
into the world of retail business, he found out about an online
game called GemStone III. Curious, he started playing the
game and soon was writing a "clone" in an effort to understand
how such a game was coded. As it turned out, Simutronics (the
creator of GemStone III) was hiring people to help with their online
games. Eric applied and was hired.
Within a year, he
had moved to working on Simutronic's latest game, DragonRealms,
eventually becoming its Product Manager, directing its development.
After DragonRealms, Eric was tapped to be the Producer of Hero's
Journey (www.herosjourney.net) and then more recently was promoted
to Director of Development and Technology. The years at Simutronics
have proved very valuable and has put Eric in a position where he
is better able to pursue his dream of creating a Christian game.
Thus, Christian Gaming and Project "X" was formed to see
if such a dream could become a reality.
After about three years
of active development, and a variety of hardware disasters, Eric
shifted his focus to family and work which consumed his time for
several years. During that time, ChristianGaming.com floundered
as a news and review site, but kept a presence with its forums because
of the dedicated work of volunteers who believe in the mission of
ChristianGaming.com

Simutronics
While not directly
affiliated with ChristianGaming.com, this is the company Eric Slick
works for and will hopefully provide the backbone for the online
deployment of Project X (once funded)
so it's included here for those interested in knowing who's behind
what.
Founded 13 years ago,
this company has been in the forefront of online gaming. Long
before "multiplayer" was a word used by the retail market
it was a living reality for GemStone II and GemStone III, our most
successful online game. Over a million players have played
this game in the last decade.
Simutronics
has seen the online world grow from a few proprietary services such
as GEnie, CompuServe and America Online to the mushrooming of the
internet into a worldwide phenomenon. This founding company
of massively multiplayer online games grew, changed and thrived
in this rapidly evolving marketplace.
As a bootstrapped company
we always were short on cash even while we were long on dreams.
Larger and better funded projects such as Ultima Online and Everquest
have taken the crown of being the producer of the most successful
online game, but only temporarily. Hero's
Journey represents Simutronic's newest entry into the world
of graphical online RPGs. It's intended to be the foundation
for a truly groundbreaking gaming experience that hopefully will
allow Simutronics to re-take the lead in producing the finest and
most successful games online.

James A Walls, Games Reviewer
A native of the Philadelphia
area, and a proud Pennsylvanian, I have been gaming since I
was only 9 or 10 years old. A player of Pen and Paper RPG's,
CRPG's, Console RPG's and Boardgames, my collection or books, CD's,
and dice is vast... and a bit embarrassing. At 21 years old
I am a non-denominational Christian who has attended Penn State
University but will be graduating from somewhere else (still to
be decided) within the next few years. Most of my primary
interests are either literary, historical, or philosophical but
for a hobby there is nothing like sitting behind the screen of your
TV and bashing a few monsters to get the blood running! Founder
of a small RPG club in Levittown PA and ex-President of the Gaming
Association of Penn State, if you are ever in the Philly area, and
aren't pounding cheese steaks, look me up and I'll whip out the
Game Mastering material for you!
