What the Game's All About

Modus Operandi is a text based game. Don't let that fool you, it is highly detailed and a very compelling experience.  If you enjoy the idea of playing the part of a sleuth, this game might be perfect for you.

In MO, you play someone who somehow seems constantly embroiled in the latest criminal activities of the island of Morada (where most of MO takes place).  Whether you play a spy, a housewife, a delivery boy, a detective, or ??? you will find yourself in a world of intrigue and crime.

Your job is to solve the mysteries that surround you.  It might be as simple as finding the location of a lost painting or involve you in solving the mystery behind a series of slaying.  Either way, you must rely on your deductive abilities and your powers of observation.

Modus Operandi is unique in the world of online games.  Where medieval fantasy RPG's seem to be everywhere you'll find few true mystery games and Modus Operandi is clearly the best of what's currently out there.  If you like mystery novels or the idea of being in a modern world that's part Casablanca and part old gangland Chicago, then you'll love MO.

The game engine is all text but for text based games it's the most sophisticated engine out there.  You'll find much greater variety and depth in this game than other text based MUD's.

For Christians, this is an easy game to enjoy.  There are some gothic elements where mysterious spiritual forces are at work but for the most part it's kept cleanly within the mystery genre...just with a touch of the supernatural thriller.  Because of this you might encounter occultic elements but they'll be part of the story-line and not central to your character's development.

Final Score

Highlights: Unique Mystery Game, ever growing and evolving world, constant improvements to the mystery systems. The GameMasters are quite responsive to player desires and needs.

Lowlights: Sometimes it can get routine...find the clue, solve the mystery.

Recommendation: Perfect for the mystery fan who wants to play the part of their favorite character.  Otherwise you might find it to be hard to "get into."  Except for some supernatural thriller elements that sometimes involve occultic elements, the game is one of the more Christian friendly you'll find.  Too bad they didn't have more in the way of churches and religious characters.

Christian Sense (CS): 3 -- Not Christian but the setting is generally neutral and you can play a Christian detective relatively easily.

Game Engine (GE): 3

Game Play (GP): 3.5
