"Play-By-Post"
Online Game
This was emailed to us and we're
passing the info on...
"Greetings! My name is
Thomas Beard, and I'm currently in the process of creating an online
play-by-post game centered around the time of the apostles. It's
called Apostoloi Tou Tropou, "Apostles of the Way," and
it begins in 35AD in Jerusalem, just before the stoning of Stephen
and the conversion of Paul. Players take control of a disciple of
their own creation and are taken to the farthest corners of the
earth to preach the Gospel. The game isn't finished yet, and we
hope to have it going by the end of July. I was wondering, then,
if you could advertise it on your site, since we're in need of players
to get it going."

Orion:
3D Adventure RPG
This first came to my attention
from our message forums. It's a fully 3D world that's looks promising.
It's still in development and is due out Christmas 2004. The game
is based in a mythical version of the pre-flood world about 200
years before the Noah's flood. You can see some screen shots here.

Volcano of Lefee
The volcano is about to erupt.
The military are busily evacuation the island. But there isn't time
to get everyone off so it's up to you to figure out how to stop
the inevitable lava flows from destroying everything. The cut scense
ar 3D graphics while the game is played top/down on somewhat primitive
graphics though the game promises extensive gameplay and a Christian
message.

Christus
Rex RPG System New in Development
Griffin
Grove Gaming, makers of historically accurate gaming environments,
particularly in 14th Century France around Lyon, are working on
a paper and pencil roleplaying game that centers on spiritual growth
called Christus Rex. In their words...
Firstly, the game is designed
to model life in 14th century France. This is a "low mana"
gaming environment where magick is rare and seldom understood.
The vast bulk of fantasy creatures do not exist. Skills, professions,
and equipment are all specific to the period and are designed
to work hand-in-glove with our own campaign environment.
Secondly, there is an emphasis
on the spiritual development of the character as a primary facet
of role-playing. The Augustinian model of the spiritual realm
is the basis for the game's view of magick and faith. Thus magick
and faith are opposite sides of the same spiritual coin.
Thirdly, there is no in-game accounting.
There are no experience points to be counted, awarded, tracked,
and expended. There are no APs to be calculated, tracked, expended.
Skill development is handled through training and the passing
of time. Actions are resolved in the tactical environment sequentially
according to initiative.
The Lyon: 1355 gaming environment is expected
to be released November 2003. Christus Rex will be released around
Easter 2004.

Full
Armor Studios Releases First Game
The Walls of Jericho is the
first title in what is promised to be a slate of games from this
new development studio. Full Armor specializes in creating small
games similar to those you'd find on the Zone, Pogo, etc. Have you
heard of Bejeweled?
Walls of Jericho is a fast paced,
timed, puzzle game. You have to manipulate a wall of blocks to bring
down the walls. All the while your followers are walking around,
dancing and bowing and generally acting pleased at the lighting
bolts, fireballs and other assundry events taking place before their
eyes. If you take too long to bring the walls down, your followers
lose heart and abandon you.

Christian
Game Developers Conference Grows
View
Image Gallery Here
The second annual Christian
Game Developers Conference (CGDC) is expecting to grow dramatially
from its first year, with over 75 attendees currently registered
to attend. CGDC was started as a way to bring game together devopers
creating games for the Christian market to fellowship and discuss
this growing niche in the gaming world.
CGDC 2003 is over, but the lingering
effects of this weekend of fellowship among Christian Game developers
will last for a long time. The conference developed a theme early
on and kept it for the entire weekend. That theme was: Fulfilling
the Great Commission through the creation of great Christian games.
There was a great sense of unity of purpose and a desire to combine
our talents to help everyone fulfill this vision.
Over eighty developers, publishers and others
attended the three day affair. They came from all across the country,
one coming all the way from Australia (John De Margheriti, CEO of
Micro Forté). He won the “came the farthest” award hands
down. Ralph Bagley of N-Lightning software gave the keynote address
and announced some exciting news for the game development industry.
N-Lightning is spearheading the creation of an independent distribution
network for Christian games.
Kenvin Johnson spoke on “The Gospel Commission
through Leading Edge Technology, Frank Cloutier spoke on “Encouragement
for Spectacular Results” and Anthony Fouts, Jr. spoke on Getting
a Product to Market. In addition, there were roundtable discussions
covering such topics as “Sharing the Gosepl and encouraging believers…”,
“State of the Industry,” a discussion of “Existing Products” and
other topics. There were “breakout” sessions with a great deal of
lively discussion about many topics.
Much more took place, but this small “snapshot”
should give you an idea of what this conference was all about. Veterans
of this industry along with newcomers got to know each other, broke
bread with each other and spent long hours into the early morning
talking about their passion: Games that glorified Jesus and moved
His Kingdom forward.
The sense of unity and purpose culminated
in most of the attendees agreeing to form a trade association to
promote and represent Christian game developer’s to the Christian
and secular markets. But this unity of purpose seemed only a part
of what was clearly a growing momentum in the Christian game market.
The conference itself doubled in size from last year: more games
were shown, more developers attended, larger projects were announced.
Perhaps at no other time in the history of
computer game development has the future looked brighter. The quality
of the products being released is up, the number of games being
released is up, the number of projects in the works is up. And what’s
on the horizon will blow your socks off. We’re still a new and fledgling
industry with many hurdles to cross. But if this weekend is any
indication, this is a good time to be making Christian games. And
ChristianGaming.com will be there to give you the inside scoop.

Left
Behind Video Games to Come Out in 2004
Buried in an article
at the Christian Broadcasting Network .
The "Left Behind" video
game series is coming out next year. Troy Lyndon of Left Behind
Games says although the games will be "Christian" that
doesn't mean they will be boring.
The article is worth a full read. Discuss
it here in our forums. The information I have been able to gleen
from what little is available is this...
The game has been in development for over
a year. The game will be high quality and will have a ministry element
to it (or it will not get published). The game will be on every
major platform.
Who is making the game? "the
people doing it are leaders in the field." according to
Jerry B. Jenkins and they are evangelicals.
Can anyone say, N'Lightning Software? Well, that's just speculation,
but they would be a logical choice. Stay tuned for more information.

Redemption
Tournaments: O'Fallon, Missouri Feb 22nd
I just found out about a Redemption

It's being held at Hope Bible Church starting at 10:00am on February

This also reminded me of this

game in your area and find out about other upcomming tournaments

Two
Guys Software, Makers of Eternal War: Shadows of Light Unveil New
GameStore
If you've been waiting for an
easier way to order Etermal War from TGS, they've opened a store
on their website that makes it easy to buy the game. If you are
waiting for it to hit the retail shelves, you might be waiting a
long time, so if this is a game you are thinking about buying, you
won't have a better opportunity for some time.
According to their press release...
Eternal War: Shadows of Light
is a hard hitting, pick-up-and-go, action packed first person
shooter that challenges the player with intelligent demons and
creative puzzles. Being labelled as "Great" and "The
Best Christian Game to date" (CCGR.org) Eternal War takes
place in the suicidal mind of John Coronado, a desperate teen
ready to take desperate measures to escape his "personal
hell". You are Mike, a friend sent to help John out of his
pain and struggles before time runs out. Travelling down the road
of malice and destruction, Mike is faced with hundreds of obstacles
ahead of him to overcome through the only Power that John thought
abandoned him. A demo is available for players to download and
check out. http://www.twoguyssoftware.ca
They have a demo available and it's true
that it's a fast paced, action filled game. It's a bit dark, maybe
a bit too dark for some, but if you like heart pumping action in
a Christian FPS game, this might be the game for you.
To see CCGR's review of the game, go here.
We currently don't have a review up for the full game but plan to
have one soon.
